Sugaring/Waxing Instructions

Waxing Contraindications

Acne medications including, but not limited to:

 

  • Accutane (at least one year off this medication)

  • Adapalene

  • Alustra (Retin A)

  • Avage

  • Avita (Retin A)

  • Differin

  • Isotretinoin

  • Renova(Retin A)

  • Tazorac

  • Tazarotene

  • Tretinoin(Retin A)

If you use any of the Retin A products, refraining from using it for a full week beforehand usually makes it a safe solution, however we strongly recommend asking your dermatologist.

 

Please inform your esthetician if you are using any of these products:

 

  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic, Lactic) in face or body products,

After mild chemical peels or microdermabrasion, please wait minimum of 7 days

Oral or topical antibiotics

  • Salicylic acid

  • Any bleaching agents for hair (like upper lip) or skin (Hydraquinone, Trilumena)

  • Other agents like chemical depilatories such as Nair ( used previously) or Benzoyl Peroxide (ProActive) can make your skin very sensitive

  • Waxing cannot be performed if you have had laser skin resurfacing or if you have had a physician administered peel within the past year.

 

Avoid over exfoliating before waxing

 

If you have been tanning within the 48 hours of your appointment, or have any sunburn, wax cannot be performed

 

Varicose Veins: Doctors consent will be needed due to the vein being so close to the surface of the skin. Slight possibility the vein could rupture and cause bleeding.

 

Cold Sores (herpes simplex) A highly contagious blister normally found around lips of mouth. Usually clears up in around 2 weeks

 

Diabetes: The skin is slow to heal and may have poor circulation along with blood sugar levels may need monitoring.

 

Epilepsy: As there is risk of fitting

 

Haemophila Operations/Recent scar tissue– You would need to wait 6 months until you have waxing over scar tissue. This is so the natural healing process takes place as waxing could interfere with the healing process and might be more painful.

 

Any contagious skin conditions due to cross infection.

 

Brow microblading– wait at least 2 months


 

Before and after your service

  • Make sure the hair is no less than 3 weeks growth. About the size of a grain of rice.

  • Exfoliate at least 3 times a week.

  • Get our PFB Chromabright solution and exfoliating mitt to prevent ingrowns

  • Take Ibuprofen, Aleve or Advil 30-45 minutes prior to your waxing service (recommended for body waxing such as Brazilians/ not facial waxing).

  • Wear breathable clothing such as cotton and loose fitting clothes.

  • Take a warm shower before waxing. This will help to open the pore for easy hair removal.

  • Relax during your waxing service, because tense muscles make the area more sensitive.

  • DO NOT take extremely hot showers or sauna after waxing.

  • DO NOT drink alcohol for 24 hours before your service or caffeinated drinks day of your waxing service.  Doing this will only make the skin more sensitive.

  • DO NOT apply ice to the area before waxing, this will only tighten your pores and make the process more painful.

  • DO NOT shave in between waxing sessions. Doing this will only make your next waxing service more painful. The hair will also be thicker; furthermore, you will not get that clean feel after wax.

  • DO NOT exfoliate the skin 24 hours after waxing

  • DO NOT work out/sweat for a period of 24 hours after waxing.

  • DO NOT sunbath or tan 24 hours before and after waxing service.

  • DO NOT wear tight clothes 24 hours after waxing.

  • DO NOT wax if you are taking cold or allergy medications for at least a week.  No antibiotics for at least two weeks before your wax.  These medications have blood & skin thinning properties.
